Listen in as Certified Instructor Angela Fraley shares how the acronym M.A.P. (Model, Add Pictures, and Practice) can set children up for success at home and in the classroom.

Oh I love this so much! Practicing new skills as an adult can be really vulnerable and it makes sense that it would be hard to practice in front of family we deem as “experts”. This will really help me with my family and families I work with, thank you!

I'm kind of infuriated that the concept of connecting with your students isn't intuitive. I found this talk deflating. It's hard to not fake your intention? 🤷🏻 Your intention isn't to honor another person's humanity? But rather to control them? Huh?

Worked in a school at 19. 17yo says "f u" The ultimate reply is "maybe later if you're good" Their face plays through emotions at warp speed. Shock, accusation, confusion, accusation, perplexed Then they wander off muttering and never say it again. They also don't report you because you didn't really say anything bad.

I love these scenarios and they demonstrate for me how I should act as a teacher. Validating their feelings, but like Shubert, showing them there is a reason for everything and talk it through. Also, when she picked up the phone in the hyped up scenario, I could hear the dial tone and that was low-key funny.

I think Moses got it backwards. I choose “Honor thy children by showing them the lasting value of sharing respect”.

Wow, that was amazing! Usually, I just sigh and shrug my shoulders in disbelief when things don't go as planned, trying to avoid saying anything that might be taken the wrong way. But the extra words after the "oops, that did not go as planned" were fantastic and uplifting after making a mistake and correcting it.

This type of thing should be taught at schools from a young age, nobody ever asks or teaches about feelings, I had a severe head injury at 4 suffered lots of nose bleeds and temper tantrums after and became isolated and aggressive growing up leading to more head injuries, I’ve lived my life void of positive feelings and now I’m 43 and completely dead inside, it only dawned on me I wasn’t feeling ‘Love’ about 8 years ago, just paid the word lip service, horrific it’s like an itch I can’t scratch

Need this at every school! Also, I agree about the no technology part! 💯 From what I have experienced, too much screen time has meant less human interaction, and less learning of crucial social/emotional skills. It's crisis level, everwhere. Thank you for helping kids learn those self regulation skills!
